more about Eye safety

A discussion of fireworks and the dangers they present to the public in Illinois.  We will be using eye injuries as the basis for our discussion, but we must realize that there are dangers to other parts of the body as well as to property.  We will not be focusing on a specific eye disease but on injuries and efforts to reduce fireworks accidents through education, the law and common sense.

Chief Dan Georgevich of the Calumet City Fire Department has been a fireman for 19 years and is Chief of the Calumet City Fire Department for 5 years.  He is on numerous tasks forces and committees in Illinois and is a staunch advocate of fireworks safety and for the enforcement of state statutes.

The ISPB started a fireworks coalition back in the mid-1980's and for the past few years, Chief Dan has headed a Task Force of law enforcement agencies operating on the Illinois/Indiana border to address the issue of fireworks coming into Illinois from Indiana.
