A Comprehensive Perspective on Low Vision and Vision Rehabilitation designed to bring together people with vision impairments of all ages, their families, educators, rehabilitation and eye care professionals, and vendors, for the purpose of learning and sharing together.

A collaborative effort sponsored by not-for-profit agencies serving the needs of people who are visually impaired.

Keynote Presentations

  • Dr. Gerald Fishman, University of Illinois, Chicago. A, nationally respected retinal ophthalmologist.
  • Mr. James Kesteloot, PresidentlExecutive Director of the Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired.

Exhibits

Dozens of exhibitors will be on hand, including low vision aid distributors, rehabilitation service providers, and local and national non-profit organizations.

Program Focus Areas

  • Careers and Employment- choosing a career, obtaining and retaining a job, and career advancement.
  • Technology: Access to Information- new developments in low vision technology, acquiring technology, accessing ATMs, cell phones, the Internet, and e-mail.
  • Medical Perspective- the latest development in medical/surgical technology and treatment advances.
  • Special Needs of Children- early intervention for parents and infants, educational issues, and transition to college or work.
  • Aging and Vision Loss- adapting to change, providing support, and maintaining independence.
  • Empowerment- parent education, public transportation, self- advocacy, housing, and mentoring.

Special Saturday Workshops, Pre registration needed

The Saturday portion of the conference will allow you to focus on one of the following specific area of interest:

  • Recreation and leisure activities for people with visual impairments (this is for both adults and children).
  • Self Esteem and Self Imaging, How do I feel and how do I look.
  • Technology.
