What:

Spy presentation

Why:   To preserve eyesight and prevent needless blindness
Where:   At your school
When:   Monday through Friday during the school year
Cost:   No Fee

EYE SPY is a slide/video presentation and discussion on eye safety created by the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness and presented to fourth grade students by the ISPB health education coordinator.  Statistics show one million eye injuries occur in children each year. Usually these injuries happen at home, in school or while playing. Fortunately, ninety percent of child eye injuries are preventable. Children between the ages of nine and twelve experience a greater risk of suffering an eye injury due to their increasing independence. To aid in its campaign against blindness the ISPB has created EYE SPY.

Program Objectives:

  1. To increase student awareness and appreciation of eyesight
  2. To increase student understanding of eye anatomy and function
  3. To increase the practice of proper eye care
  4. To prevent accidental eye injuries

The ISPB health educator utilizes slides/video/Powerpoint to lead and encourage discussion with the students as they are guided in accomplishing the program objectives. A question and answer period follows the slide presentation. Workbooks containing interesting learning activities are provided for each student.

EYE SPY is part of the public education program of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness and is offered free of charge to all schools in the State of Illinois.
