On behalf of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness I am pleased to announce that research funds will be available in the year 2007 for projects relating to prevention of blindness. It would be greatly appreciated if you would not only post this notice but also alert resident and research personnel.

Interested persons should submit their RFP information by Friday, April 27, 2007, no later than 2:00 p.m.

We have a guideline fact sheet (below) for all information and formats required for this year’s application process. Some bullet points have been changed or modified so please take note. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COPY AND POST.

Grant awards will be made by the Professional Committee and the Board of Directors by the end of June, 2007.

Funding request proposals (1 original and 10 copies) should be sent to arrive no later then 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2007.

Guideline fact sheet - Research Project 2007

Grants up to $5000

The maximum amount per grant will not exceed $5,000

Priority given to newer investigators: including medical and optometric students, residents & assistant professors; departments of ophthalmology & optometry

  • Funds will NOT be provided for major equipment or indirect costs
  • Funds will NOT be used for institutional overhead and/or salaries
  • Only projects within the State of Illinois will be considered.

Each research proposal must include:

  • the purpose of the project
  • a budget and general plan for the expenditure of funds
  • the time frame of the project
  • a brief curriculum vitae of the principal investigator
  • approval of the project from your Institutional Review Board (IRB) and/or your Animal Care Committee, at the time of submission, if appropriate,
  • in addition to the formal wording or your grant proposal, please include a SHORT paragraph (4 or 5 sentences) describing your project suitable for lay understanding
