The ISPB is also proud to continue supporting the VISION FOR HUMANITY of Central Illinois (formerly VOSH of Central Illinois).

The program provides vision examinations and eyeglasses for the economically disadvantaged men, women and children in the area. The Catholic Charities of Springfield registers and screens applicants, provides eyeglasses and coordinates the vision clinic, under the leadership of Carol Harms, coordinator of Community Services of Catholic Charities of Springfield and Connie Marzinzik, supervisor of the St. Clare’s Health Clinic.

The ISPB helps to supplement payment for the lens grinding expenses provided by a local laboratory, which gives a discounted rate.

From January 1 through December 31, 2002, of the 1,515 (low-income, working poor) participants who came to the vision clinic 1,447 were provided with eyeglasses. Seventeen eye care professionals will be participating in this year’s program.
