Soldiers & LASIK Surgery

The Pentagon has issued a ban on joining the Army until at least a year has passed after having LASIK surgery. While in the Army if you are interested in qualifying as a jet pilot or a Ranger, you will be ineligible. Also, you may want to “triple check” the regulations of the Navy, the Marines, and other services before you enlist (Source: “The Inc. Column,” Chicago Tribune, Jan. 30, 2000).

Note: LASIK or Laser in-Situ Keratomileuis is used in the treatment of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.
