ISPB Welcomes Eight Nurses to the Eye Spy Program

The ISPB is happy to welcome eight nurses to its team of EYE SPY presenters statewide.

The EYE SPY educational program is designed to improve fourth grade students’ appreciation and understanding of eye health and safety. Through classroom slide/video presentation and demonstrations, conducted by the ISPB health education coordinator and by certified nurses, more and more fourth grade students are being reached in Illinois.

On January 30, 2003, an EYE SPY workshop was conducted by Gary W. Lasken, O.D., of Lasken & Wilson Eye Care Center in Peoria; Connie Brazil, AuD., Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH); James A. McKechnie, Jr., ISPB Executive Director; and Michael Weigus, ISPB Health Education Coordinator.

The day’s training, held at the Peoria Regional Office of the IDPH, was sponsored by the ISPB and the IDPH in cooperation with Triton College Continuing Education Center in River Grove.

Plans are underway for another training session for nurses in the near future. For more information, contact Mike Weigus at (312) 922-8710.
