ISPB Welcomes Two New Board Members

The Board of Directors of ISPB elected two new members at the annual meeting for fiscal year, 2002-2003 — David H. Orth, M.D. and Christine White. Both will serve a one-year term.

David Orth, M.D., as the immediate past president of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society, will be continuing the tradition of becoming a member of the ISPB board.

Dr. Orth completed his residency in ophthalmology at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center. He was a Heed Fellow and completed a retina fellowship in 1975 at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute – Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1976 he founded the Illinois Retina Associates which is a 10 member group of board certified ophthalmologists all of whom are fellowship trained and specialize in diseases and surgery of the retina, macula and vitreous.

At the present time Dr. Orth is Professor of Ophthalmology at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center and Director of the Irwin Retina Center at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. He is Principal Investigator for a number of NIH, NEI and pharmaceutical research projects and clinical trials.

Dr. Orth is able to combine his love for ophthalmology and love of sports by serving as team ophthalmologist for both the Chicago Bulls and Chicago White Sox.

Christine White brings to the board a wealth of knowledge of nonprofit and profit organizations. She has a background in fundraising in various groups from a small garden club of eighty members, that raises approximately $10,000 yearly for scholarships to chairing the annual auction of a private school, that raises over $300,000. Ms. White will be taking an active role in the planning of ISPB special events. Aside from her fundraising activities, Ms. White is also pursuing a career in Mediation with a focus on Family.

The following slate of officers for fiscal 2002-2003 include: Leslee Williams, President; Wesley E. Bass, Jr. and Walter M. Jay, M.D., Vice Presidents; Burton W. Hales, Jr., Secretary; Thomas S. Bridges, Treasurer.

The board members who were re-elected at the annual meeting include:

For a three-year term
Thomas S. Bridges
; Lisa F. Rosenberg, M.D.; Leslee Williams

For a two-year term
Mark D. Esarey, O.D.
; Beverly Susler Parkhurst; Jonathan B. Rubenstein, M.D.; William P. White III

For a one-year term
Robert P. Schroeder, M.D.

Other members of the board include: Peter J. Latz; Marilyn T. Miller, M.D.; Charles M. Vygantas, M.D.; David M. Webster.
