Color and Contrast Hints
for People with Low Vision

  • Place a dark placemat under a light-colored plate or bowl or vice versa. Use dinner plate contrasting with your entree: dark plate for fish or rice; light plate for beef or dark
    vegetables.
  • Place your hairbrush and comb on a mat or tray that contrast with the top of the dresser.
  • Select a bright or light-colored case for your eyeglasses.
  • Use clear shoe polish for all colors of shoes.
  • Alternate light and dark colors in your closet — contrasting sections will help to locate the color you need.
  • Differentiate your keys from one another — place a bright piece of tape or a bright-colored key sleeve on your main house key.
