Workplace Eye Wellness Month

ISPB and Prevent Blindness Illinois (PBIL) have once again declared March as Workplace Eye Wellness Month. 

The goal of the annual observance is to provide employers and employees with important information to help keep eyes safe and healthy at work. Prevent Blindness offers a variety of free resources including workplace eye safety fact sheetsshareable social media graphics, and webpages. Prevent Blindness also offers a Workplace Safety module as part of its Healthy Eyes Educational Series

“Digital Eye Strain,” also referred to as “Computer Vision Syndrome,” is a group of symptoms experienced when using computers or other digital devices for long periods of time, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Symptoms may include dry eyes and/or irritated eyes, blurred or double vision, tearing or watery eyes, and headache.

Shaden Rafati will be joining the ISPB/PBIL team for Spring 2025. She will be focusing on the Champaign - Urbana area in southern Illinois as she promotes health education and safety while helping ISPB/PBIL expand its reach and help even more people.

2025 Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health
Submission Deadline: Monday, March 10, 2025 - noon ET


The Jenny Pomeroy Award for Excellence in Vision and Public Health is presented annually to an individual, group, or organization that has made significant contributions to the advancement of public health related to vision and eye health at the community, state, national, and/or international level. Among the highest honors that Prevent Blindness bestows, this prestigious award consists of formal acknowledgement and a commemorative plaque to be presented at webinar in the Fall of 2025 which builds on the theme of the 2025 Focus on Eye Health Summit. It further comes with an invitation to present this work as a speaker on the webinar. The award serves as a living memorial to Jenny Pomeroy, who served as the CEO of Prevent Blindness Georgia from 1996 until 2013 and brought a passionate understanding of public health to her work and our mission. 

2025 Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award
Submission Deadline: Monday, March 10, 2025 - noon ET

 

The Prevent Blindness Rising Visionary Award is presented annually to a student or resident in a health-related field who submits the best overall application and essay addressing the 2025 Focus on Eye Health Summit theme: Perspectives in Vision. 

By uniting diverse perspectives, this event aims to inspire actionable solutions to improve vision health outcomes for communities worldwide.
